Power Supply whining - Worth it to RMA?

Hi all,

I recently built a new computer and bought an EVGA 750 G2 Power Supply.

Whining from the power supply can be heard from about 30 cm, even when the computer is off. The computer runs fine, and no whining can be heard at all when the computer is running.

I took out the power supply and whining can immediately be heard when it is plugged in and the switch turned on (but the power supply not running).

Is the power supply at a higher risk of failing in the near future? Should I RMA this power supply, if the whining when off doesn't really bother me as I'm not close enough?

Coil whine is very common and it doesn't necessarily mean that your PSU is at risk. If you find the noise irritating, what you can try doing before you RMA it, is:
1. Reduce/change the load you have on your PSU
2. Try adding a a case fan
3. Overclock if you can

Thanks for the response, however the coil whining occurs even when isolated and just plugged into the power. Good to know though that it doesn't necessarily mean it's failing.
