I just started my pc build today and I added the cpu to the mother board and powered my mother board to see if the power supply and motherboard worked, but sadly my power supply did not do a thing
Google for "Paperclip test" and connect *only* a case fan to the PSU and then use the paperclip to short pins 16 and 17 on the 24-pin adapter - make sure you get it right, I'm talking from meory, but the paperclip test is easy to find. If that fan spins, then your 12V supply at least is working.
Whatever you do, don't power your CPU before you install the cooler - you will only cause massive damage or a shut-down within a few seconds. modern cpus...
