Power Supply

I am buliding my first computer it's a ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe, Thermaltake case with multiple fans. I was told I would need at least a 600watt power supply primarily due to the SLI. Any help would be appreciated.

That was exagerated, and has been reduced. A good 450 watt should work fine, if you have two power hungry cards, then a 520 watt for overhead.

Fan's don't draw much juice, a good 400W power supply would likely be good for your system with a single video card, and something around 500W would be more than enough with dual video cards.

Other then the SLI, 4 120mm fans and, some lights. But don't I have to have 2 cables to hook up the SLI cards.

Fortron Source 500W, Antec True Power 550W should be fine. Enermax makes something between 550 and 600W also. Sparkle Power uses Fortron Source. I'd go for something with a respected name, a 600W unit from an unreliable company will be unreliable in spite of its rating.

In addition to the solid advice in previous posts, you might want to look at the <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817151024" target="_new"> SEASONIC S12-500 500W Power Supply </A>. Priced right, SLI ready (although not presently NVidia SLI certified), and highly recommended as an 80 Plus Approved unit as all the Seasonic S12 line of PSU's are. Check <A HREF="http://www.silentpcreview.com/article247-page1.html" target="_new"> this review </A> out.

The PSU's Crahman has suggested are very good choices. I have a Thermatake 680W and its very stable. If you decide to get one this big its a very solid buy.
