In relation to your question...600W Evga should be fine for that rig, you'd likely peak around 500W , it's sooner more likely that the PSU you have in particualr is faulty, in which case replacing under warranty should be fine. It's a budget PSU, but not an unknown terrible PSU, EVGA are a fine brand, anad have 3 year warranties.

However how do you know you're getting a power surge?

I use a UPS now because when i didnt the power for my apartment would all turn off and i'd have to go to the breaker and flip the switches to turn it back on.
