Power surge protectors? Do they work?

I recently put my new build together. Regardless I'm going to be getting a power surge protector, but how important are they? I read that many small power surges happen everyday. I'm assuming a power surge protector wouldn't do anything against these small surges if there not strong enough to blow the fuse. So do they only protect against the big power surges I'm assuming? Would I be fine to use my pc until I got a surge protector, which would probably be in a couple of days? I've been using my new build for about a day with just a power strip.

Hopefully you'll be fine for a few days? I mean your tv doesnt get zapped regularly right?
Your power supply will absorb small surges leaving tghe large one to the surge protector.
