I have a Kenwood Dashcam that can be powered with switched power (only on when the car is on), OR a constant power (always receiving power regardless of car being on or off). One of the quirks with this dash cam is that the power button doesn’t work when the temperature is too cold, and the only way to power on the camera is to unplug the USB power cable and plug it back in. As you can imagine, this is really annoying.

I would like to install a power switch for this device that I can control with a button. That way I can cut power and then restore power without having to unplug it and plug it back in.

The dash cam is currently installed via hardwire harness. Power is coming from an always on circuit with an add-a-circuit tap into the interior fuse box. That is connected to a converter that outputs 3v or 6v (don’t remember which one) for the camera; amps is probably 500mA or 1A (again, don’t remember which it is).

What’s the best way to add a button switch for this device?
