Hey folks, I think I might have an issue.

Yesterday I added two case fans to my PC and everything worked pretty well until I tried shutting down the PC at night. After a fairly long period of installing a windows update, the PC went down hard as the switch on my power strip flipped by itself.
I've done some starting/shutting down and restarts since and haven't had any other issues, but I also haven't put the PC under load before shutting it down again.

I'm fairly sure that the 2 fans aren't overloading my PSU and I checked all cables after putting in the 2 fans. Anyone got an idea what the issue is? PSU failure? Power strip failure? Freak incident?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, they both shut down in tandem, I had to manually boot the PC after turning the strip back on. It also finished installing the Windows Update.

My build:

i5-4460
Coolermaster Hyper Evo 212
ASRock H97 Anniversary ATX
Kingston HyperX 8gb
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
MSI Radeon R9 380 4GB
Cooler Master K280 ATX Mid Tower Case
XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified
2x Thermalright X-Silent 120mm Case fans

I know I'm getting close to the limit for the PSU but I should be in clear, shouldn't I?

Well, you have to find which one is tripping which. If power strip kicks out it will shut computer down too. If PSU is overloading strip it will also shut down. I would try to connect computer to some other place first. If computer shuts down again than it's it's fault, if it doesn't, it's the strip.

Wouldn't the PSU trip its own switch too if it was failing/overloaded?

I'll get a brand new power strip tomorrow to make sure I don't grab another old and potentially faulty one.
