Power to the motherboard

Is there a possibility that a not fully connected power pin would cause the motherbaord or any other component ot short circuit or to be fried?

No. In fact it would stop a short circuit.

Thanks, Is there a list of common pitfalls or something before I power it on I think it's ready but I'm worried it will break because I screwed up?

Just go through Tom's Build steps and all your manuals eg mobo, psu and make sure everything is connected

Test it without the OS drive connected first. See if it posts - loads bios. If OK then everything is connected OK and you can then reconnect your OS drive.
