Heeey there! I have the PowerColor HD7870Le, Core; 1000Mhrz Memory; 1500Mhrz.
The ontboard fan controler is dogged. The fan doesn't spin until the card hits 92*C then it goes nuts for a whole of 15 seconds. I have no control over it at all. I've tried using the CCC OverDrive/Power section, Nothing. MSI Afterburner, nothing.. PowerColors own GPU monitoring software, again.. Nothing!
Has anyone ever herd of this happening and know how to fix it? P.S.!! I cant send it back and get a replacement of PowerColor, I bought it second hand off eBay, was going for £88. Just couldnt say no to that! 😀

Hi I had a similar problem with a faulty diode which I did RMA what happened was the card would hit 60c then go bonkers up to full speed although it dd spin prior to that. If you cant RMA it why don't you rewire the fan to the Mobo and and set an average speed that keeps the card under 70c no matter what. Alternate option would be to remove the diode and see if that helps.

You could buy a new fan system that might resolve your issue such as the ARCTIC Accelero Xtreme IV - High-End Graphics Card Cooler for around £40 but that will not solve your problem if its the diode. I would try powering the cards fan away from the card via the motherboard or through a simple fan controller that costs about me about £10 and are less than £6 now which are useful anyway for chassis fans. the amazon link is below if you are interested http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006Z8LB6S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But before all of that just see if they will allow you to RMA it you may be pleasantly surprised, I certainly wouldn't buy a water cool system for a 7870 as Topluca says it is serious overkill and more expensive that an alternative card. I have RMA 2 cards to MSI and I've been really pleased with their service no idea about PowerColor though.

I run 2 7870 in crossfire mode and they are the quietest cards I've ever used and the highest temp I get is 70c on the top card, 65c on the bottom card
