Hi,

I've bough an old, but powerfull for my needs, PowerEdge server.

Currently all the harddisk tray are used and configured in RAID-5;
7 x 73gb + 1 x 300gb

I would like to remove 2 x73gb disk and in the free tray, put some 2tb 5400rpm Sata disk which are cheaper than SAS drive.

So, at the end, I would like to have tray 1 to 6 in RAID-5...and tray 7 and 8 "independant", both containing a 2tb drive. I want to use those drive to put media files, which I don't care to have those in RAID mode.

Is that possible ? will this be functionnal ?
thanks

8 bays - correct?

Which System?

E.g.:

https://techmikeny.com/products/dell-poweredge-r710-8-bay-gen2-2u-server

Do you have the applicable User Guide/Manual?

The User Guide/Manual should provide/list the allowable drive installations and configurations.

Yes, 8 bays, thanks for the exact term :)
it is a poweredge 2950
Didn't get any guide with this, but I can lookup on google.

My main question was mainly if it is "ok" to use standard SATA drive for my media storage needs rather than SAS drive.
