So I've got a Server 2019 on a Poweredge T320 and I think it has Raid 1 Mirroring on it, I show "RAID Controller in Slot 6: DELL PERC <PERC H710 Adapter> Configuration Utility" in BIOS->Device Settings. And it has two HDD in the tray caddy's in slot 0 and slot 1, but in disk management only one drive shows up.

I want to add a 4T HDD to the server as a shared drive for everyone in the office to use off the network, but it doesn't appear in disk management. I do see it if I go through BIOS->Device Settings->RAID Controller in Slot 6: DELL PERC <PERC H710 Adapter-> Configuration Utility->Physical Disk Management->View(or Select) Physical Disk Properties, but it appears as: "Physical Disk 00:01:02: SATA, 3725GB, Ready". I have the option under Select Physical Disk Properties to "Start Operation", but I am unsure if this is to initialize the HDD or Enable it?

In the end I'm just trying to add this HDD to use as a Shared Drive for our office, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Colapsar.

If you're trying to do a RAID 1 array, it should be the same capacity as the other drives in said array. If you only have 1x4TB HDD, then you're not needing RAID option at all. Just connect the drive to an available SATA port on the motherboard, format the drive(have it as standalone) and then share it with the rest of your office network.

I'm not trying to do a Raid 1, I think it already has a Raid 1.

I thought it would be that easy, but the drive doesn't appear in Disk Management. I know its plugged in as the light is solid for that slot. I checked drivers, but doesn't appear in Device Manager either?

If you have the T320 with the 8 hotswap bays in the front of it, then those run thru the Perc card and you will need to pass the drive thru in Dells app (Open manage Server Administration) by setting it up as a single disk raid-0 (use the new virtual disk wizard under Storage>Perc>New Virtual disk) or you can set it up in the Perc's bios by pressing Ctrl+R when prompted to during POST.

Yes it does have the 8 hotswap bays in front. I'm running OS Windows Server 2019, and went to Server Manager->File and Storage Management->Volumes: Under Disk here there is Dell Perc H710 with Go to Disks Overview, when I go here I just see 2 disks one is the Dell Perc H710 and the other is a Seagate Expansion. If I right click I show New Volume, but I can't seem to locate New Virtual Disk Wizard anywhere. Is it maybe a different path for this OS. I know this Server started with Windows Server 2008 R2.
