Hello guys,
Below mentioned are the two systems my college can spare for my research work. I received a Titan X as a part of Nvidia's hardware grant program (So please dont say that if I can afford a Titan X, I can afford to get a good PSU ). Is it possible to get my GPU up and running with what I have ?.
System 1
Fujitsu Celsius m740 workstation
-600 W PSU (80 plus gold)
-It has 6 (+12V @ 18.5A)
-1 8 pin PCIe port
System 2
Dell OptiPlex 9010 (DT)
- 250W PSU (80 plus gold)
- It has 1(+12V @ 17.8A)
- 2 x SATA (1 from HDD + 1 from optical drive)
So here is what I'm planning to do,
1. Install Titan X on system 1
2. Use the 8pin port on system 1 to connect to the GPU's 8pin port
3. Use a dual SATA to 6 pin PCIe converter on system 2 to connect to the 6pin port on the GPU
I wont be using system 2 for anything else, just to power my Titan X. Is this a good idea?.. If yes, how do i power up the whole thing, like which system should I switch on first?
