Question Powerline Adapter Losing IP Address

Hi

I have a powerline adapters to connect my PC to my router. It was working fine until I had to unplug everything whilst decorating and since then the connection randomly drops.

It randomly drops out to "No Internet" and when I use the W10 diagnose tool it states: "the default gateway is not available" or sometimes "Ether doesn't have a valid IP configuration".

Fiddling with the powerline adapters (re-pairing, unplugging, removing and replacing the ethernet cables) has no effect. Resetting the router will sort the problem but it stops working again after about an hour.

I've checked and DHCP is enabled on both W10 and my router. All of the Wifi connections in the house are working fine, it's just the powerline that is dropping out.

Thanks for any help.

Decorating....

Did that include wall painting or plugging in power tools into the host powerline adapter outlets?

Wondering if perhaps the electrical wiring connections inside the outlet on one end or the other is a bit loose?

Not at all uncommon to have something like that happen if there were a number of plug-ins and unplugs that wiggled the outlet proper.

When you plug in the powerline adapters is there any "give" or other motion/movement with the socket?

Do you have someone with the knowledge and skills to turn off the electrical circuit(s), remove the outlet covers, and check the electrical connections?

Hi there

Thank you for your reply.

We didn't plug any tools into the outlets and we never removed or disturbed the outlet covers. The powerline adapter is plugged into the same socket that it was in previously. There's no give in the socket when plugged/unplugged.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I managed to find an option within the router to reserve the IP address assigned to the powerline adapter and that appears (touch wood) to have resolved the issue.

I'll post back if it stops working.

Thanks
