Hi everyone,

I'm currently using a wireless connection at home which in terms of speed is OK, but it is very inconsistent. I am not able to directly connect via ethernet cable as the router is in the apartment bellow mine. However an ethernet cable from the router has already been brought to my apartment, but it is in the room next to the one where my PC is and it is just enough to reach a wall plug. So I thought I would get a Powerline Adapter kit and hopefully resolve my problem with the internet connection. This is where I need your advice please.

From what I read so far I understand that the speeds given by the manufacturers are just marketing and a 500Mbps kit with a 10/100 port can only deliver up to 100Mbps. I've got 130Mbps broadband so if I could get anything close to 100Mbps with the Powerline then HAPPY DAYS.

So I was wondering if for my current set up I could get away with something like that:

2x D-Link TalkTalk Powerline Adapters Model DHP-P326AV

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-D-Link-TalkTalk-Powerline-Adapters-Model-DHP-P326AV-Ethernet-Cables-Included-/311379633535?hash=item487fac257f:g:GgwAAOSwLVZVy2nO

or I should invest more ( in this case double ) and should get something like this one:

TP-LINK TL-PA451KIT AV500 with AC Pass Through

http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-LINK-TL-PA451KIT-Powerline-Adapter-Through/dp/B00D8BGLMY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1448578562&sr=8-3&keywords=powerline+adapter

I am aware that you get what you pay for, but since I do not have knowledge on Powerline Adapters I though I would ask for an advice first before I pay double more for something that may only sound better, but actually is not.

Many thanks !

In that case, I would buy a switch, and another ethernet cable.
Run that cable through the apartment to where you need it. 100% speed.

But yes, a powerline thing would work, probably. Depends on the specifics of the building wiring.

Yes, I read about the different things which could affect the performance of the powerline adapter, however at the moment your suggestion is not an option so I could only go for the powerline as I do not want to deal with wireless anymore - hence I'm not trying to set a new WiFi hot spot or anything like that.

I couldn't find any specifications for this particular D-Link model so I do not know if its port is 10/100 like the one on the TP-Link 500. As I said I do not have much knowledge on the matter. So could you advice if the D-Link kit would be able to achieve close to 100Mbps speed - given the electric wiring is fine and there's no other issues.
