I recently purchased a TP-LINK TL-WPA4220 V1.2 AV600 powerline adapter for areas of my house with poor Wifi signal from the main router. The adapter is capable of both a wired ethernet connection and a wireless connection.

The wired connection works perfectly (running an ethernet cable from the adapter to my laptop), however the wireless connection does not work, the hotspot either has very poor strength or does not appear at all.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Any signs of pairing problems with the powerline adapters?

Since the wired connection is working okay then I would suspect not. That then makes me think that maybe the wireless components are not working correctly or configuring correctly.

Wondering about the wireless clone procedure per the video at this link:

Your router should have the WPS button as I understand the specifications - any signs of problems via the LED's when you try a wireless clone?

Do other wireless devices (if any) have problem or just the mentioned laptop? Does the laptop receive better wireless service when moved closer the router? Need to eliminate some problem with the laptop's configuration or hardware.

Two trains of thought:

1) That area of your house is, for some reason, just not conducive for wireless service.

2) If the problem exists in other areas then the router (make and model?) may be having some problem.

Can you raise the router up higher for testing purposes?

Antennas: Maybe reorient any antennas in various directions. Check that the antennas are correctly connected.

What frequency and channels are you using? Could there be interference from other nearby wireless networks?

Thanks for the response

No devices (phones, another laptop) can connect to the powerline adapter hotspot, But work fine when connected to the router. I don't think the Laptop configuration is the issue.

The router is the Virgin Media Hub 3.0 and Wifi works fine in the areas of house within it's range

Can't really move the router due to the length of the cables.

Current Frequencies and Channels are:

2.4ghz - Channel 1
5ghz - Channel 36

Another bit of information:

The Wireless connection from the adapter is behaving in the same way as the router connection, so despite being plugged in upstairs away from the router. The adapter hotspot appears strongest (and can be connected to) in the same place as the network from the router. I.e Although the adapter is out of range of the Virgin router, when in the same room as the router I can connect to either the router network or the adapter network without any problems.

So I'm fairly sure the adapter is creating a wifi hotspot, just that it doesn't appear to be matching up with the location of the powerline adapter

Upon referring to the installation guide again, it occurred to me that I had the made the silly error of having the pair of adapters plugged in the wrong way round. Once this was corrected everything works fine!

Thank you for your answers anyway, and apologies If I wasted any of your time
