Powerline problem mains?

My setup (tplink, pl4 + av500) was working nicely then failed. I bought a new pair of pl4+av600) but no change.
After using the tplink utility (tpPLC) I now know that some broadly adjacent pairs of sockets, 4 in a particular room, work together but not with others further away. I don't know what the sequence of these is on the ring or spur.
I've disconnected every other appliance, isolated upstairs and downstairs rings , all to no avail.
Sorry this is long winded but I'm at my wit's end and would appreciate any help.

The newer av2 based units you purchased should have worked better. I doubt it is the outlets themselves but they are pretty easy and cheap to change if you know what you are doing.

Normally I tell people these work well except in the rare house like yours they do not. It would be nice if the units gave some indication at to what the problem is.
It is always hard to find why these break. I had a ceiling fan in a room far away that messed them up...but only when it was on medium speed. Eventually replaced the fan when it failed with a new one exactly the same and it caused no issues.

So when nobody is around to complain plug the devices in the outlets you want and then go to the power panel and shut off all the breakers except for those 2 circuits. If this does not work especially if you make a effort to turn off everything else other than the tplink device I do not have much ideas. I would even unplug stuff.

Not sure what country you live in but they have these new arc fault breakers that are required in new houses. A couple of brands block the signals from some powerlines....People say the newer av2 based ones work but it is unclear what combination of breakers and powerlines work.

Bill,
The house, in Scotland, is older than running water with thick stone walls . It was totally rewired 40 years ago and has thermal circuit breakers not electronic so not high suspects but they are on my hit list.
it was working then stopped suddenly. The new tplink things behave just the same as the old ones so I think I trust them.
Nothing else in the house stopped working and we didn't bring in anything new.
As you say - hard to diagnose. On my electrician's advice I've started a program of replacing all the elderly sockets (receptacles?). He says the wiring he has seen so far looks to be in good condition.

Thanks
Bill
