PowerNET works with only a router? Also Download speeds...?

Hello I have PowerNET through a local ISP call Benton REA (Rural Electric)... There's an antenna on the roof which has a cable running into my room with a PoE port and a LAN port. I connect the PoE for power and I connect the LAN to my Linksys WRT54GL, then a wired connect from one of the 4 ports to my PC. I always thought you had to have a modem AND router?

Why do I not need one? I ordered one and it will come this weekend (Cisco Modem), but what would be the benefit of having a modem as well?

Also, the service promises 2MB/1MB but my download speeds have been around 200-300KB/s... might this be because I'm only connected through a router and not a modem as well?

By the way I have DD-WRT Firmware on my Cisco Linksys WRT54GL router.

****ALSO*****
When I run SpeedTest on BEntonREA PowerNET site itself the Download speed is around 2MB but on speedtest.com it's 200/300KB, why would this be?

All the electronics to operate the rooftop device, and supply you with Internet are at the device itself. That is why the PoE box, to power the rooftop device.

No, you don't need a modem, The rooftop device takes care of everything. You can connect your computer to the LAN connection of the PoE box directly, and you should when running speed test.

Speedtest.com is a link site to send you places to test your speed. Try Speedtest.net.

Speed can be affected by many factors including distance, number of hops, other equipment at those hops. Your ISP speed is probably faster because it is direct to you with no other 3rd parties in the path.
