I'm having trouble finding a pre-built desktop priced around £500. I would like an intel CPU with enough HDMI/DVI ports so i can run dual monitors. I will also be running linux alongside windows. I am not into gaming but i would like something that can run programs smoothly such as programmng IDE's, video rendering software, photo editing software, etc. If possible i would also like a solid state drive. I am not sure i can get a pre-built pc within my budget but i need something that will allow me to run dual monitors and heavy software at least. Could someone recommend me a pre-built machine for my budget as my hardware knowledge is lacking.

Solution
YES!. You might have noticed that this build (in my signature) uses one of those, although not that particular model. It's a lower mid-range card, but will run nearly any game, in 1080p, although at reduced effects. It has the same three outputs, VGA, DVI (which can be converted to VGA with a dongle) and HDMI.
I can't find anything I would recommend for that budget. Pre-builts target specific markets, productivity, gaming, home/school. You have a more specialized need. Also pre-builts in your price-range use sketchier PSUs than I would like to recommend for a mission-critical use. You might be able to find a 'bricks and mortar' store that will assemble parts that you have bought from them. If so, you can go with something customized for your needs. Even the monitors are expensive. Do you have any bits you could use?

I have all the monitors, and extras such as mouse/keyboards but i just wanted something for around £500 that will support dual monitor and be able to run windows and linux smoothly at the same time whilst being able to run IDE's smoothly also.

If you could build your own, that would be great! Building one yourself isn't that hard, a lot of people call it adults Lego. If you are too afraid of building your own though, NCIX lets you choose the parts you want and they will assemble it and test it for you for $50. Here are the links for NCIX CA and U.S:

If you want you build your own PCPARTPICKER is very helpful to find the parts you need:

If you want a $500 (roughly 450 euros)build I would recommend AMD and just upgrade to their high end cpu's. I know that the alienware alpha packs a intel core i3 and 500 gigs but its not a ssd nor is it for editing. But wait till later this year and buy all your stuff near Christmas.

It looks like the OP is in the UK, so US prices and stores are a bit far away.

Something like this, plus a GPU and a bit more memory might do the job.

It's an old CPU though.

500 pounds is a price-point for gaming machines. To get what you want, you need a 400 pound machine that you will upgrade a little. Unfortunately, these machines have too few cores and too little memory, as well as needing a SSD.

Yeah, realised he was in UK after I posted.

It lacks an OS. The motherboard is a Gigabyte H81M -DS2V which has a VGA and DVI port, no HDMI, but the system could be configured to have one, the ASRock H81M has HDMI, DVI, and VGA.

Adding the motherboard and OS brings it up to 500 pounds. It has only a 350W PSU and it's pretty low-rent. I'd replace it myseld.

Ok final attempt:

Processor: Intel 4th Gen Quad Core I5 4590 3.30GHz [Upgraded]

Memory: Crucial 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz Single Module [Upgraded]

Hard Drive: 120GB Solid State Drive

Hard Drive 2: 1TB 3.5" 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive

Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GT 730 Silent / Low Profile 2GB GDDR3 [Upgraded]

Optical Drive: 22x DVD Writer

PSU: EVGA 600B Bronze Power Supply [Upgraded]

Case: Novatech Eclipse High Performance Mid Tower Case [Upgraded]

Motherboard: ASUS H81M-PLUS Intel H81 (Socket 1150) Motherboard [Upgraded]

Cooling: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler [Upgraded]

Sound: Onboard Audio

£596.11

I already have an operating system to go on. WIll this motherboard/case/gpu support my two monitors fine? and what do you think of the system?

P.S. : I take it theres some form of onboard wireless network adapter? or will i need to purchase one seperately cause it was not included in the selection list

You don't need to the CPU cooler, stock will work fine. You can get a WiFi Dongle to go in a USB 3.0 port. It will run two monitors. It has HDMI, DVI and VGA (Sub D) outputs on the GPU and it specifically states that it will run up to two monitors.

I'd be tempted to leave out the GPU and get one of my own. That's a very weak, but cheap, GPU. The 730 is the go-to low end GPU.
