Pre-Ordered 2080 ti, Indecisive on AMD Ryzen 7 2700x or wait for Intel 9th gen 9900k/9700k

My 2080 ti will be picked up on October 8th. I have a list of parts I still need to purchase:

I'm planning on waiting till the first week of October to purchase this stuff anyways, hoping the prices will drop.

However, I would hate to have the 2080 ti not run at its full potential; and for some reason, I don't have confidence in AMD's Ryzen 7 2700x over Intel 9th gen...

The goal here is to hit 165fps on 1440p for both PUBG & R6:Siege.

If 2700x can make it happen, then I can save some money and go with AMD...

I'll probably have to wait and see some benchmarks; but I need to vent.

I wanted to get some feedback and suggestions, this will be my first build and I'd like it to be moderately future-proofed. Thanks for reading!

No matter what you pick, you're going to have some killer framerates, but I would wait for the 9 series just so you can make the best buying decision and not be regretting your 2700x down the line

2700x = $349 USD
Depends if you have money to burn buy the top one, if not, buy the AMD as it will be very good!

I agree. I nearly pulled the trigger on the ryzen 7, I really hope intel ships these new chips first week of October. I'm sitting around waiting for a graphics card, I don't wanna turn around and wait again on a CPU!

Given the lack of noticeable improvement from the jump from 8700K to 8086K, I doubt that what is essentially an '8086K with two more cores' will scale any better in 99% of most games... (similar scenario for jumping above 6c/12t in Ryzen 2600 to 2700, etc..)

It's still best to wait, and the supposed overclockability due to improved thermal performance with a soldered heat-sink could be a good reason to buy it. And if it's releasing soon anyway, they might as well wait so they can make the best decision they can.

While the 9900k will be undoubtedly fast on its aging 14nm, in under 6 months the Zen 2 will be out at 7nm, which should have vast improvements, so by going with the Ryzen now, you can still upgrade down the road, where as the INTEL will be End Of Line after 9th Gen and you will need a new motherboard with any upgrades.

While the 9900k will be undoubtedly fast on its aging 14nm, in under 6 months the Zen 2 will be out at 7nm, which should have vast improvements, so by going with the Ryzen now, you can still upgrade down the road, where as the INTEL will be End Of Line after 9th Gen and you will need a new motherboard with any upgrades.

Damn, this has been in the back of my mind as well. I think I'll go with Ryzen, I just hope it helps deliver the frames I want at 1440p. I hope the price drops a bit more in response to the new intel chips arriving soon. Thanks for bringing me back to AMD lol

Due to the current state of cpu, 8700k out performs 2700x and you d expect 9700k and 9900k to be better.

Clock for clock, coffeelake is faster, not to mention the 0.5 ghz in clock, 2700x tips at 4.3-4.4 ghz all core and 8700k can go anywhere 4.7 to 5.0 all core. I think if you waited this far. 9000 series is the way to go.

I have to respond to the comment about there being barely a difference between the 8700k and the 8086k. They're the same processor.

The 8086k are 8700k processors that Intel knows are reliable at higher clock speeds. it's a marketing gimmick, naming after their popular legacy processor.

The 2700x does out perform the 8700x and 2700x for applications that dynamically scale over multiple cores. for some reason most game devs still rely mostly on single core, intel historically has better single core performance. Also possibly some bottle neck for gpu on 2700x. But if you need to encode 4k video the 2700x out performs Intel. If all you do and care about is gaming, Intel is the best performance, if you're a video editor go team red.

On the flipside, if you keep waiting for the next best thing, you will be waiting forever. You have to pull the trigger some time. Generally speaking, pick a date and buy what's best on that day.
