Hey guys I was looking at building a sleeper system in the case of my Dell Optiplex 740. It currently has an old Socket 939 mobo in it, and that wont work for upgrades. What I need to know is what size the case is. Whether it is ATX or Micro-ATX. Please help me and shower me with your knowledge. Thank You!

Hi

http://www.dell.com/downloads/jp/products/optix/OptiPlex_740_TechSpecs_070326.pdf

shows 3 different cases which one have you got?

Next many old Dell PC cases & motherboards are non standard regarding :-

front pannel switches, USB ports & Led connections to the motherboard

motherboard mounting to case (often special mountings to a tray not pillars)

Have a look inside first
(this assumes you know what standard connections look like)

measuring size of motherboard will tell you it is ATX, Micro-ATX or otherwise

I have the Minitower (Not so mini anymore)
If it is proprietary, then would it be possible to take a motherboard from a similar Dell Optiplex, such as a 760? it has an LGA 775 motherboard, and could put in a Q6600.
