Prebuilt System Upgrades

Good morning guys,

After being a lurker reading many many threads and posts i decided i would create a post to get the great knowledge you offer directly to my question rather than bits and pieces that apply to me.

After taking about 5-6 years out of the PC gaming era i am not back after being gifted a prebuilt system from the mother-in-law.

This is the system.

CPU: AMD A-10-9700 (Bristol Ridge)
-which is also my intergrated graphics i use atm with the R7
Ram: 8GB
Hard Drive: 2TB
PSU: 180w


Now as a World of Warcraft player i'm 'getting by' using the R7 integrated graphics.

It's not ideal in this day and age as you well know but i pull between 15-40 fps.

I am looking for a steady 40-80

After reading many "can i run this gpu on 180w psu" threads i am coming to my own conclusion.

- Dont risk it and upgrade the PSU for the sake of £30-40.

Now from what i see i think i am running a MicroATX Case?
Height: 30.71 cm (12.09 in)
Width: 16.31 cm (6.42 in)
Depth: 39.50 cm (12.40 in)

The questions!:

As this is a prebuilt system will any PSU fit in or do i need to get a smaller unit?
-also is the PSU going to be stuck in and require brute force due to being a prebuilt.

I am looking at getting a 450w-500w PSU to power the system and a 1050ti (single fan) as i have limited space in the case.

Will this GPU increase my performance/FPS much or will it be bottlenecked from other components like the CPU?

I don't want to fork out £100ish for a psu/gpu for it to not do alot.

From the back part of your chassis:

It looks like you can drop in an aftermarket ATX PSU.

The board also doesn't have any proprietary power connectors which is a plus for you when moving for an aftermarket PSU. Might I ask what sort of gaming details you have set in WoW and at what resolution you're gaming on?

Excuse my ignorance, but what are proprietary power connectors and why is not having any a benefit for me when moving?

I am playing on Level 3 settings which i don't know if you play WoW but it's pretty basic. Alot of features disabled/low.

3 out of 10 basically.

I'm at work at the moment but i will come back to you when i get home with my monitors resolution.

I'm sure it's 1080p

it means a custom connector for its power supply
and a standard power supply will not work unless you use an adapter ( which there may not be made)

he noted it has a standard 24-pin connection so any power supply should work

wow is a cpu intensive game you will never reach this goal without a complete system upgrade
regardless of gpu you buy for your a10. its just too weak

So in your experience, what sort of FPS gains could one achieve from upgrading the PSU to take a 1050ti.

with an a10? mediocre

wow needs a strong cpu to reach good fps averages

I disagree , the 9700 is about on par with an 860k which is generally capable of 60fps+ & rarely if ever dropping below 40fps imo.

Thats the athlon 950 which is your a10 9700 without the intevrated graphics.

Fps isnt incredible but is within your stated ranges.

So its up to you to make an informed choice whether its worth the outlay to you.

I suppose at the end of the day a new psu + gpu can always be carried over to a new,system should you not be happy.

That board is am4 but unfortunately hp have not offered any bios updates to allow ryzen cpu's (even though I have no doubt it would be capable of running one ) - If they had an easy solution would have been to drop a ryzen 2200g in there & be done.

If you drop the game resolution to 720p & settings to low itll give you an idea of your cpu limitations regarding fps.

With BfA, I am not entirely sure how well that CPU will play, even with a dedicated GPU. I haven't had access to older hardware, since the expansion came out.
