I was thinking about de-lidding (just theoretically) and wondered since my prebuilt's warranty is expired, is the cpu's expired? Or is it under AMD's

Solution
No problem.

AMD and Intel both warranty their CPUs for 3 years, so if you had bought the parts individually it would still be under warranty. Since you bought a prebuilt, the only warranty on parts is the warranty on the whole system because vendors buy in bulk and they get tray warranties that are only honored directly between the vendor who is the actual purchaser and the OEM, which is AMD or Intel.

Just another reason why we tell people to built their own systems.

Yeah but I was 12 and had no clue what to do aside from a ltt video, if I wanted to get a pc now I would build it. I've case, psu, mobo, and cpu cooler swapped in the past month, and I'm getting an ssd next month. 100+ hours on pcbs1&2 helped alot.

Just be forewarned, delidding carries significant risk of breaking your CPU beyond repair. It is not recommended.

So, just as a final point. Not that this is a secret, but, delidding should only be done to parts that you either don't care if something happens to them because you have so much bloody money that it's unimportant, or, you just don't care because the parts you're delidding are just old hardware to you. Also potentially if you're doing it because you work in the industry and you're getting paid to do it, which still falls under it's unimportant. Otherwise, don't do it. Or, do it. Whichever applies to you. These days though, not really seeing the kinds of gains that could be had on some generations.
