I recently got a Dell Precision M4600 that contains a FirePro M5950 and I the AMD catalyst drivers installed, Catalyst appears to see that there is a FirePro in the system, yet Device Manager is reading a Radeon HD 6700M. I was hoping that someone could help me out in getting the FirePro to be the card everything uses.

you have the wrong (generic) non CAD driver installed, which is why you see it listed as a 6700m
note that the 5950/6700 are almost exactly the same.
they vary only in the driver used the non cad driver may be faster and updated more often if you are a gamer

go to the amd site for the latest "Workstation" Laptop\dell\driver

the dell driver is older than the AMD one

https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Workstation-Graphics-Drivers.aspx

Works for me, I have also been trying to no avail to get the backlighting on the keyboard to turn on, feels to me like there's some BIOS setting I'm missing (Running version A17) do you know anything about how I could get that up and running?

the backlighting keyboard was a option, not all laptops came with this

if you do have the back light keyboard it is controlled from the bios and from a software applet/driver

please visit the dell web site for the driver(s) for your OS

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/precision-m4600/drivers

and here is the same page with the OS/driver filters applied

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/precision-m4600/drivers

you need all 3 if using win 7 (should also work under win 8x/10)

I already have all of the necessary drivers, it really feels like some sort of struggle between the keyboard and the BIOS (keyboard has an option for backlighting) but it also won't do the brightness, the prompt will show up on the screen that the brightness is being changed but to get an actual change it requires me to go into the BIOS to change that.
