Hello all,

I purchased a new monitor recently that tops out at 1920x1080 (This one, to be specific: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/AU/content/model/UM.VT2SA.A01

Today I find myself needing a new (gaming) PC to go along with it. While picking out the pieces I'm trying to determine what graphics card makes sense for me with the understanding that it will be a couple years until a new monitor is in my budget, so I'll be playing at 1920x1080 for the foreseeable future.

Would a GTX 1080 make any sense at this resolution? Or is that really suited most to a 4K/higher resolution experience? What about the 1070? Would I be better off holding off on cards like that until I get a stronger monitor as well?

Any and all advice is welcomed! Thanks for your time!

Well first off I would never buy a monitor like that for gaming. I would look at a high refresh rate 1080p monitor, there are plenty to pick from under 500 dollars.

For 1080p 60hz something like a 1060 6gb or even a 1050 ti would be pretty good. A gtx 1080 is quite overkill for 1080p 60hz, less so at say 1080p 144hz.

Thank you! Yes I liked the monitor for the touch screen because I also play around with some photographs, documents, and editing, and this was useful for that sort of thing. But point taken for sure, next time I'll pay more attention to the refresh rate!

Okay perfect, thank you much! I think the 1060 sounds good but I might talk myself into that 1070 just for the extra longevity.
