Prescott Celerons Run Cool Even When OC

I was surprised to see after test, how cool these Prescott Celeron D CPU's run with the standard Intel heastsink and fan-

* 2.4D 478 not OC and at full load = 51'c.
At full load and OC to 3019 and Vcore V at default = 56'C. (temps recorded with ASUS PC Probe during full load test, with ambient air 30'C, with no extra fan cooling- only PSU extraction fan).

I haven't, won't OC any higher but max OC in specs is around the 3700 mark.
I expect Vcore and better cooling would be needed to go this high, Ha Ha :)

56°C at stock voltage and moderate clockspeeds is not really my idea of "cool", but if it works, so much the better.

Those temps arent unheard of. They are better than some for the CPU, but not the best either. My 3.0E runs cooler than that and is OC'd higher. Im not knocking your temps, they certainly could be higher with that CPU. Keep in mind that the CPU isnt the only thing you need to keep an eye on. Your Northbridge may be getting way to hot, you may want to check your temps there also.

Is the Northbridge temp the Mainboard temp?

The only temps recorded is the CPU and Mainboard.

Also, does the Northbrige underclock/slowdown automatically if it gets to hot?

Im not sure about his particular CPU and MOBO, but my 3.0E and SOYO setup can cause serious heat issues with the Northbridge. Crashman has or at one time had the same MOBO that I have and I think that I remember him telling me that at one time his Northbridge was getting to hot. I have recorded temps over 60C with my infrared temp gauge, and you have to consider that the heatsink is probably a few degrees cooler than the actuall temp that is being put off by the underlying chip. I can say this for certain, my overclocking and system stability increased dramtically when I installed a fan to cool the Northbridge.

It's okay moz, his chip natively runs on a 133/533 bus. When he ups it by 25%, it is still running a lot slower than yours at stock. The north bridge is very much speed affected, so at 166, it's seeing 1/2 the heat it will at 200.

Yes thats correct, BIOS set 167/33 - 167x18 = 3019 reported by BIOS.

Also, instaled a couple of case fans and temps dropped by 6'C to max out at 50'C.

I instaled 2x 80mm case fans.

One mounted 3/4 the way up the back of the tower, which is at the same level as the CPU. Outside air direct on to the CPU.

The other fan is mounted at the bottom of the tower at the front, blowing outside air on to the Hard Drive, resulting in good circulation all through the tower with no hot spots.

The 400W PSU is running cooler also with more air exausting through the PSU - a result of the tower being slightly pressureized.

The room temp is around 30'C - outside 38'C- now summer in Australia, so the temp at other times of the year - autum/fall, winter & spring when the average temp is around 18'C, the PC will run cooler still.

Good job, I dont understand why this method isnt talked about more. I have had great results from reversing the rear fan.

s775 Celeron-D "J"s run a lot cooler then that even.

My 330J, with a CoolerMaster Hyper 48 heatsink and 1250rpm Zalman fan (add about 5C for the stock fan @2600rpm):

Note that CPUZ reports vcore inccorectly on Asus P5GD_ boards, but the Asus Probe numbers are correct.
