Is anyone else a little tired of this whole X800 XT vs 6800Ultra debate???

I mean, I think it's getting pretty ridiculous with all these cheating/optimization scandals(ATI) and magic drivers that increase performance up to 30%(NVidia).
Seriously, neither one of these cards are even available on the market and yet my days are spent reading month old reviews for cards that haven't reached the retail market yet!
I hear all these stories about which one is better/worse/equal/cheating/optimizing etc... but I don't even know WHEN I could buy one in the store if I wanted too.

Not to mention that the games I want these cards for don't have any release date yet either (HL2 and Doom 3)

Just venting, feel free to vent here too

you nkow im thinking the exact same thing, hence my reduced post increase as of late. everyone is talking out of their asses, because yet only very few even own the x600pro

AHH not this HL2 and Doom3 crap again!! Just buy a card that can run current games at 1280x1024 with a decent 2-4xAA and 8X AF! Don't think about the future!!

That's my new theory, there's no such thing as a future-proof computer.

I haven't been posting much for that reason.

These paper releases and cheats are really a bore. The next person that hypes up a 30% increase in performance after the next driver release should be banned...

Yep, that's what I aim for as well.

I wonder how many people bought Geforce 3's to play Doom III?

And here I thought your reduced post count was because you were busy with extra-cirricular activities. Dang I had hi hopes for you boy!

BTW, there are PROs and XTs online peppered here and there (ati has them in stock at their web store), and Speed already got his. But yeah not much to talk about until there are more out there.

Really though I'm still waiting for the PCI-EX/939 gear, so this is all academic.

Well holding my breath might make me closer to purple, at least before going blue.

There is PCI-EXG16X AND AGP8X (slightly cripples though) on this Gigabyte board. Note also the DDR1 and DDRII.

Just need them to add the AMD64 instead of a P4 and they have a nice solution for me.

So it doesn't look to be that long, hey the new cards aren't here yet either. I think August/September will give me a better idea of what is/isn't going to work.

PCI-EX is what I hoped for too. But you know, the $500 intro price to the A64 3500+ is too high for me. How long will it be after Socket 939 is available when the S939 A64's can be found for $200-$250? That's about all I am willing to spend on a CPU. So it looks like for me, S939 A64/PCI-EX GPU is a long ways off. No way am I spending over $1000 for just a CPU and Graphics card. Especially considering what a gig of Ram is costing now and what NF3-250 939 mobos will cost. Oh well I'll check your reviews and benchies and see if that pushes me over the edge sooner.

ABIT IS7, P4 2.6C, 512MB Corsair TwinX PC3200LL, Radeon 9800 Pro, Santa Cruz, TruePower 430watt

$500 is fine when you consdier that the 940 socket FXs are going for $700+ at newegg right now.

Expect the prices to come down by august, I'm planning on upgrading by September or very late August (when I come back from Vacation out east).

For now I'm just hopinh that the X600 will make it into laptops before I go because I want to get one before I head east.

Also, if I can use DDR1 and have the option for DDR2 later then I can add 512 of corsair XMS ddr400 for about $120CDN. That's why I like the idea of that board. It allows me to buy the board first, use my R9600P until a good PCI-EX solution comes out, and also enjoy all the new toys. Then upgrade again in the new year once the next next gen of crap comes out too.
