I recently received my Sapphire HD 7750 1 GB DDR5 graphic card...
Installed it, updated the drivers!!
As far as functionality is concerned, it's working fine!!

However I am facing a strange problem!
I used to think that since discrete gpu's have their own RAM they don't need to share/depend on system RAM.
But even after having it's own 1GB dedicated GDDR5 RAM for some reason it's sharing the system memory up to 1GB!!
I've only 3GB of DDR2 RAM. I would like to disable this shared memory so that I could have more memory for programs, but there is no such option in CCC. Even the DVMT setting in the BIOS seems to have mysteriously disappeared after I installed the card!!

Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
Also since my system RAM is only DDR2 and the HD 7750 has GDDR5 RAM, if it is sharing system memory-won't that mean the GDDR5 RAM will have to operate at a slower speed of DDR2 RAM?
So how can I prevent the hd 7750 from sharing my system RAM so that I can get more performance?

The advanced display settings shows 1 GB dedicated VRAM and 1278 MB is shared!
The total video memory is now 2302 MB!!
I've no use of 2GB VRAM!
My max monitor resolution is 1280*1024!!

Even the dxdiag display tab shows approx total memory as 2286 MB!

Windows always does this. It will not use it unless it for some crazy reason needs to.

My other cards show over 3000mb(3821 for a 4350 :) and 3823 for a 5870) shared, never makes a difference.

Also please use the task manager to check memory.

What OS{fixed} do you have as well?

So it is normal?! I was worried that I made some mistakes while installing the card and drivers since it is my first time using a dedicated gpu...

But what about performance? Wouldn't DDR2 slow down GDDR5?
Is their absolutely no way to prevent windows from doing this? Like some registry hack?

By PS you mean power supply?
I got Seasonic S12II 520W PSU for using the graphic card

The taskmanager shows 1.5 GB in use. I guess that's normal...

lol!!

I'm running Win 7 Utimate 32-bit
Didn't install 64 bit version since I had only 3GB of RAM

good enough.

You have a total of 4 gigs to allocate for memory. So 3 + 1(plus any other allocated memory) you are maxed now anyway.

I would always recommend the 64 bit versions of windows now days just in case you want more memory in the future.

Yes I'm planning to upgrade in near future.
Couldn't upgrade the entire system at a time due to budget restriction
My current setup, although quite old, should be enough me for 6+ months at least because of the new gpu!
