I went to my local computer store today to discuss which card I should get. i was really interested in the gtx 980 but shocked at its price but when they showed me the gtx 970 its price was only lowered a little but its specifications were 5-10% lower than the gtx 980's specifications, which the clerk said wouldn't make much of a difference when playing games with high or ultra graphics like far cry 4 for example, but which one would be better to choose in price and performance? I was thinking the 980 but it seems like a tiny boost in specs to gather more attention. What do you think?

Solution
970 for 1080p(maybe at 1440p too)

well i would recommend a 2x 970(sli) instead of a single 980 the price difference is not much, while the performance is significant

as the clerk said , if you play at 1080p you can ultra any game with the 970 (maybe ven at 1440p @high)

so if you have a decent mobo and a PSU you can probably sli the 970 later on down the line

Well my current monitor has a max resolution of 1920x1080 and I don't plan to go to 4k any time soon so the 970 would work well for my current monitor? but the only difference between it and the 980 is because of the 4k resolution performance?

No 980 perform better on 1080p too..but not doing justice for its prize.if i were you i will go with a 970 now and add another 970 latter when prize goes down..If you don't want to go with sli and have no planing to upgrade your card for at least 2 year than go with 980 for sure...
