Historically, there have been some educated guesses or announcements about price drops for CPUs.

Is anybody aware of when the last price drop for the retail P4 2.53 was?
Is anybody aware of when the next price drop for the retail P4 2.53 is expected or has there been an announcement by Intel about expected prices for that CPU?

Thanks in advance.

When the next P4 stepping (D#) comes in (Dec/Jan) with the 3Ghz+ all the prices should shuffle down the line. I'd guess the 2.53 will end up somewhere between $150 and $185 at Xmas.

Actually Intel's thinking about launching 3.06GHz in November I believe. You'll definitely see the 2.53 drop in price. It's already down to $240 or so, which is a pretty good price.

THG's Hard News had info that there are no price drop wars expected in Q4 for AMD & Intel. It was announced yesterday I beleive.

Really?... That's too bad, that means the 3.06GHz will probably be $600USD+.

My bad, but at least the 2.6 gets to $300USD.
