8800gt 269.99 now 229.99
HD 3870 249.99 now can be found for 219.99

A 7950gt still costs 200$ why were the old cards so expensive and why are they still kind of pricey with better things out???

Because the uneducated will still pay more for old products. Just like with the 8800GTS 320/640MB. People see 640MB and think, "Gee, this has to be better than this 512MB GTS. It's only $30.00 more, what a deal!" *shrug* I've seen it happen a few times already.

Also, with the price gap being so little between the 3870 and 8800GT (512MB) it's hard for me to recommend the 3870 any more. Although, the 3870x2 is still a great item...

Die shrinks also reduce production costs(by how much I have no idea). Retailers have already paid x-dollars for a product they want to sell it and get as much for it as they can. I seen this alot with video games. A company would make a crappy game, it would never sell so they discontinued it, never leading to price reductions. The games that would sell the most would get price reductions sooner because they would saturate the market a certain price.

You are correct.

As you are, I'm not going to waste the cash on a new 512 GTS to get a handful of frames more. This card is serving me well, so until it does otherwise, I'm going to stick with it.
