i am currently building my first custom PC, it costs around 1800 Australian(roughly 1400 dollars american, but that is including a monitor and keyboard and such, is that to much for my first gaming pc??

All depends on your budget, if you can afford that easily, then go for it.

I just built my first PC and it's $200 more expensive than yours, I don't regret building it at all.

There's no such thing as 'too expensive for my first PC'. It is completely down to your financial situation - i.e. if you can afford it, then go for it! Nowhere is there a rulebook saying if you're new to building/using a gaming PC, you have to use cheaper parts.

All I would say is (if you are using expensive parts) to be extra careful. But use YouTube guides and the Tom's site, and you will be fine.

Precisely. Building a PC isn't going ey it's my first time I should only spend 'X' Amount it's more like... Oh I earn 'X' and if I save up for this amount of time I can put this amount of money into a PC thus setting your buget, $1800AUS should be a nice budget for an i5/GTX970 which is a powerful rig. Did you have a parts list in mind or did you want a config?

Not sure whether you already know what you want to buy, or not, but something like this will perform extremely well in any games that are out/coming out this year (60 FPS in high settings at 1080p).
You can overclock the CPU if you want too.

I've also included Windows 10 (though you could buy a different version if you'd prefer), mouse, keyboard, speakers, and very decent monitor (24", 1080p).
