i am currently building my first custom PC, it costs around 1800 Australian(roughly 1400 dollars american, but that is including a monitor and keyboard and such, is that to much for my first gaming pc??

No, that sounds about right including your peripherals, I would just make sure you have room to upgrade (RAM/SLI or CF with a good enough PSU/New CPU architecture to upgrade). What parts are you planning on going with?

There's no such thing as 'too expensive for my first PC'. It is completely down to your financial situation - i.e. if you can afford it, then go for it! Nowhere is there a rulebook saying if you're new to building/using a gaming PC, you have to use cheaper parts.

All I would say is (if you are using expensive parts) to be extra careful. But use YouTube guides and the Tom's site, and you will be fine.
