Price-point balance between GPU and monitor?

I'm in the process of working on my first PC build. It will be primarily used for gaming but also some photo editing and hobby-level digital art. This build will have to include all peripherals.

I've already purchased the CPU and mobo--an i5-4690k and ASRock Z97 Pro4. (MicroCenter was having a really good sale on that combo.) After I add everything else I'm going to need, I'll have about $350 left for both the GPU and monitor.

It seems to me that buying a GPU that can give me 100 fps is a waste if I can only afford a 60Hz monitor. Then again, I don't plan on another build for a few more years and a GPU that runs games at 100 today may only be able to run tomorrow's games at 60 fps.

If anybody has experience on this issue, I'd appreciate your feedback.

Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays!

If you can stretch your budget a GTX 970 would be a nice upgrade.

You're not going to be running today's games (AAA titles) at high/ultra settings around 100fps with a $350 budget regardless.

It would be a nice upgrade! Unfortunately, I don't have that much flexibility in my budget. But thank you very much for your help!!!
