Price spiking for CORSAIR XMS2 1GB DDR2 800 ???

I was getting ready to buy this memory on Newegg and noticed that it had jumped in price from $115 the last time I checked, up to $280 per stick!!! Now I check again a couple days later, and it's down to $109. I'm positive that it was at $280 because I had a quantity of 2 totaling $560.

Any explanation for this price spike? Is this common, or a sign of a future price hike?

Seems to be the same $40/DIMM price it's been for a while ($80 after rebate for 2 sticks: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034 ).

Newegg occasionally has some strange pricing spikes like that. As far I can tell, it has nothing to do with our pricing with regards to what we sell to Newegg for. I don't know what causes it.
