Prices still dropping? DDR3

I'm wondering what the price situation with memory is at the moment?
The prices have dropped quite a lot over here lately and i was thinking about buying 2gig of DDR2-800 to replace my 1.5gig DDR400.

I'm not desperate for it and if prices are going to continue dropping i'll hold out.

Also what is the timeframe on DDR3? I'm guessing about 18 till it becomes a worthwhile technology in the desktop market?

Actually, digitimes or someone put out a report that said memory would bottom out in Q3. We may not hve seen the bottom yet! Historically, I can't think of a a time when 2GB of memory has been cheaper in the U.S. (with 667mhz kits going for as low as $70-80)

Oh right, I don't remember buying oblivion.
It will get upgraded just doesn't need upgrading at the moment.

I agree it's very cheap here at the moment 1GB 800mhz for £35 (around $70) is extremely low. 1GB 667mhz is slightly cheaper at about £27.

I can hold out as i said, I'll stick my old stuff in my bro/sis/dad's machine. I'm not desperate though and will put it off a bit longer since prices have dropped a few months on the trot.

I guess DDR2 should last for a year or so past nehalem which i'm guessing will support DDR3 from the go.

Yes DDR2 was expensive, and some of the branded stuff still is. That's why I didn't want to buy it. Even the 533 stuff was expensive.

Does this mean that future memory like ddr3 and ddr4 are going to be much cheaper?
