Prices?

I recently heard that there will be some price decreases for A64 chips in the April timeframe. Does anyone have any more info on this?

At this point, I'm not sure if Amd will bring out the 4200.
Even if they do, they may just up the topend price. It would be nice to see a slight drop in prices, but Intel is putting a lot of financial preasure on Amd, so price drops may not happen.

Those friggin 600 series CPUs are to damn high. I paid $200.00 for my 550. Now thats one hell of a deal and I wouldnt expect that price again especailly 3 months ago. I won it on E-bay. I dont see how people can afford the new CPU's.

What type of financial pressure?! When I think of one company placing pressure on another I think of the old price wars....what kind of pressure that would not cause price drops?

I hate that new naming system for Intel! You say 550 or 600 and I'm thinking "whatever the hell that means." There's got to be a better way to compare performance between the chips. I guess the best way will be thru sites like Toms' that do performance reviews/testing.

I dont like it either, and it confuses the hell out of me that my 3.4 is a 550. As for the reviewers, I definetly read the reviews, but when it comes to the newer technology I only will put a certain amount of faith into what they say.

Gonna have to look at all reviews skeptically...the review sites will need different AMD/Intel bubbas to properly setup the rigs and bench. Benchmarks will gain precedence, but the companies can somewhat fudge/tweak for major/common benchmarks. Very frustrating! 😡 I just want to be able to take the two products, compare them and figure out which has the best price/performance for my needs...

Intel has dropped the bottum out of the flash memory market, by selling at a loss. It is usually a profitable division for Amd. If Intel sustains the low prices, Amd will be back in the red ink again.
For Intel, it's a small unimportant product, but they can use it to hurt Amd's profitability, and so keep preasure on them.

Aha! AMD being limited in products and Intel being very diverse! Thank you!
