Primary drive 1 not found

Hello,I have a similiar problem with my 2400 dimension. At start up is states Primary Drive 1 not found. F1 to continue F2 to setup.. I have gone into setup and under boot sequence the CD ROM Device shows not installed. I have installed new cable etc. The tray opens and closes but if you insert a CD, you see the light turn on, power starting up and then stops??????? What a pain

The drive is probably dead. Pull it and install it in another computer to be sure.
