Yesterday i took my hard disk to one friends. We connectd my hard disk to his computer by removing the cables that were attached to his cd drive. So now we had two hard disk connected to the cpu and one cd drive not connected by anything. He started his cpu and went to bios and selected his hard disk to be booted up ans clicked ok and then the computer started and the windows logo came and it then it got stuck and nothing happened. He thought that maybe his hard disk has some problem so he dissconnected the cables that were plugged into his hard disk, so now only one hard disk was connected that was mine. We again started the cpu and this time the acer logo came, as the monitor is made by acer and now it stuck again and after 3 or 4 minutes, a black screen came with many thing written on it and in the end it said Secondary slave hard disk error. We dissconnected my hard disk and plugged the cd drive cables back into it and his hard disk with the orignal cablea, and his cpu started and it was working. It got past the logo and desktop screen came up. so his hard disk was alright there was some problem with mine. Then returned to my house and connected my hard disk to my cpu with cablea with which it was connected before and started the cpu and again it got stuck on the acere logo and then again black screen came with many things but this time at the bottom it said Primary Slave Hard Disk Error and it has been like that ever since. Those things that came on the black screen i noticed some thing about my hard disk and cd drve,it says something like this

Auto-Detecting Pri Slave..... IDE Hard Disk

Auto-Detecting Sec Master.....ATAPI CDROM

Sec Master:HL-DT-ST DVDROM GH70N UGA0 Ultra DMA Mode-5

If you are using two IDE based hard drives.

The master device must be connected to the right 44 pin block on the Ide cable Master depending on the cable can be black or blue.

You must then connect any other hard drive to the gray 44 pin block of the Ide cable.
If you connect them in reverse you will get an error.

If you look on the back of each drive there will be eight pins with a jumper bridging two of the pins.
There is a table on most Ide drives that tell you depending where you put the jumper what the ide drive will be set to.
Put your friends boot drive to be set as a master. connected to black ide block of the cable.
And set your Ide hard disk to Slave, then connect it to the gray 44 pin block of the ide cable.

Next time you boot your friends drive will load windows with no problems. and you will see your drive also once windows has loaded ok.
