I read the guide for overclocking c2d. I got prime 95. Is version 24 the latest verstion? Also, i cant figure out how to run 2 instances of prime 95 at the same time. finally, if my cpu is stable after running prime 95 for 2 hours but the temperature average for my core is about 75-80, should i be worried?

PRIME95: you need to have two copies in separate directories. Then, adjust the "affinity" of each - one to core 0 and one to core 1.
The temp sounds high, but you need to tell us all the details of your system, including brand and model number of your CPU, heatsink/fan, case, etc.

i've been able to just open it up twice and it works fine. just open it up, then open it up again. then, like the other guy said, just put one on core 1 and one on core 0

Conroe 6600 2.4 overclocked to about 3.2 ghz
stock intel cooler, used a better silver based thermal paste after scraping off the cheap stock stuff. intel 975xbx motherboard revision 305. have the oc debug mod. one raptor x hard drive. one dvd burner sony dru-700. one ati radeon x1950xtx crossfire ready card. 2 gigabytes(1024x2) twin2xp6400c4 corsairs. silverstone tj04 mid tower size case

im having the same problem, I cant get two to run. I cant install it twice either, if I click on the install icon it just asks if i wanna uninstall. also, can I adjust my fan speed? Im using asus AI suite, and i turned Q-fan on to performance, and the rpm hasnt bumped up at all.

well, i don't recall having to install prime95. anyway, you could copy the prime95 folder into another area of your system. rename the folder into something like prime9502 and rename prime95.exe into something like prime9502.exe
after you done this, you could put the 2 folders in the same place if you like. just run both prime95.exe and prime9502.exe and set affinity in window task manager.
right click on prime95.exe in the process tab and select set affinity, then unclick cpu1.
right click on prime9502.exe in the process tab and select set affinity, then unclick cpu0.

alright you guys, im running two prime 95, my cpu usage is at 100 percent. My cpu temps are vary between 77-79, its that alot? shouldnt it be much lower? i am uising the scythe mine. I dont know how good my thermal compound is, i wanted as5, but the only stuff i could find in my city was some shit no name stuff. also, I have the asus Q-Fan on, so it would adjust the fan speed acordingly. it is only bumping up the fan speed by 13 rpm..... from the 48c my cpu was idling at. I dont understand this at all. and Im running a 6400 at 2280. so i really didnt do much of an overclock, i dont understand why it is so hot. maybe the vcore? i have it an auto, it says its at 1.304. is that normal?

EIST = Enhanced Intel SpeedStep

it lowers the internal multiplier (x8 -> x6) of the cores when the cores are idle, this then means that it slows down the speed, thus in turn conserving power which saves you money on your electricity bill 😀

It also lowers the temperature at idle as the cores aren't working full speed. :)

Im not sure about your Vcore, wether its too high or lower (lower = better) ther max vcore for intel core 2 duo (not EE) is 1.35v so I guess you're safe....

Now what about the temps... what temperature reading program are you using? Coretemp, nxsensor, speedfan etc.....?

I thought this link had a good explanation of how to run prime95 on a dual core

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16446

And to answer you question. I would not run my CPU over 70 C for an extended period of time. And i would be worried if I ever saw it in the high 70's.

80 C = 176 F. This is toasty.

Maybe i'm way off base, but those temps seem pretty high to me. I would not run them on my system.

well, the thing is, I have never ran both my cores at 100 percent, like ever. I dont see myself even being able to do that unless im doing somekind of video work, which i dont even do. The most i put my cpu under is like 60 both cores, and thats usually for only a few minutes tops, when its loading something. so i dont know if i overclock farther or not. cause i know im not gonna be pushing 100 percent both cores for more then a couple minutes, like ever.

I d/l'd prime95 and the "torture mode" is greyed out. How do I get it on?

How does TAT with the "workload level 100%) turned on compare to prime95?

My core temp reads 47 idle and 62 under load. My load is using TAT and turning on the "worklaod level 100%".

I am OC'd to 3.1ghz and I'd rather just leave my system like this than reinstall my HS as I see no need to really increase my speed any more.

I also could lower my vcore another notch or 2...I don't recall what it is now and run EISS.

My temps are high when I use the Intel Thermal Analysis Tool and start the workload at 100% (62-63). I am running prime95 in torture mode now and it's been an hour, and my temps are 52-53 with my cpu at 3.1ghz. If I go by prime95's stress test I should be able to get my cpu a bit higher before hitting 60 degrees. If I go with TAT's workload I'm stuck at 3.1ghz.

ORTHOS stress prime 2004 is good for E6600. you only need to run one instance of the beta. Run orthos for about 8 hours to test stability.
http://sp2004.fre3.com/beta/beta2.htm

but the dfi-street prime95 guide is fantastic too.

My cpus temps were 70c stressed with orthos. you really need a nice heatsink/fan for cooling. the stock heatsink/fan probably isnt a good idea

1. Make two shortcuts to PRIME95.EXE and put them on your desktop. Call them "Prime95 1" and "Prime95 2"

2. Modify Prime95 2's "target" (in the shortcut's properties) to, for example: "E:\Prime95\p95v2414\PRIME95.EXE" -A1

By adding the -A1. Leave Prime95 1's target alone.

3. Run Prime95 1 and set the affinity to "0"

4. Run Prime95 2 and set the affinity to "1"

5. Now toture test each instance of Prime95

6. Verify that each core is at 100% in the Task Manager.

Also see what the BIOS says about your CPU temp at idle. "Good" would be 33-40 (normal vcore and speed). I get about a 12c-15c increase when stressing (at 3.6). Check that heatsink too.

wow hmm, im pretty sure mine idles at around 47. i think maybe i should re apply my thermal compound or something.

I cant check for sure, because my windows cd key went tits up, i was using the cd key i used on the comp im using to type this right now. i just ordered windows xp prof off ebay. but yeah, i remember it idled around 47. should i reaplly the compound? should I get some better stuff, the only stuff in my city i could find was some generic shit.
