My PRIME Z590-A only shows RAM as 2666, even though the RAM is 3200.

I also tried it with 3600 but it would still only show it as 2666.

Anyone here understand what am I doing wrong? The motherboard specs says it naively supports upto 3200 (without OC).

  • 10th Gen Intel® Core™ i7/i9 processors support 2933/2800/2666/2400/2133 natively, others will run at the maximum transfer rate of DDR4 2666MHz.
  • 11th Gen Intel® Core™ processors support 3200/2933/2800/2666/2400/2133 natively

It may not be OC for the CPU, it may be XMP for the motherborad, but the fact is that for most (if not all) RAM sticks anything above 2666MHz is considered OC (in the case of DDR4 3200 kits is factory OC ready and tested).

So I think theres no other way around but to enable XMP on the BIOS. Some motherboard may do evertyhing without user intervention, others wont.

Cheers!

Interesting, I did not know that most of the RAM sticks anything above 2666MHz is considered OC!!
