Prime95 temps with 3570k at 4.4 ghz help

After I purchased my H80i, I decided I would dabble in overclocking. I ran Prime95 for about an hour in an attempt to stress test it. I did not get any errors, but I wonder what kind of temperatures I should expect. I got max temps, all in Celsius, of 77, 83, 80, and 78, but average temp was probably between 65-75. Is this about what I should be expecting, or should I reapply the thermal paste? When I was first installing the cooler, I had to reapply the compound once, so I don't know what to think. Thanks to the community for any support you can give me.

I have the processor overclocked to 4.4 ghz, so that is why I was asking questions.

Those are good temps for 4.4GHz. It's not overheating. But if you really want to do something and lower those temps, replace the cheap thermal paste Intel used under the IHS. Intel used to use solder, but cheaped out on Ivy bridge CPU's.

I actually used arctic silver 5 as a replacement for the thermal paste. Should I reapply the thermal paste and actually spread it around? I heard that there was the line method, but I figured maybe I should spread it around. If I were to spread it over the whole top, what should I use to do that?

Are you talking about the Intel applied thermal paste under the heat spreader? Then I would do like in the video and apply in a line method.

I personally haven't done this to an Ivy Bridge CPU. Had a 3770k right after release and with a healthy overclock it ran crazy hot. I got rid of it, cause at that time no one was really sure why Ivy was so hot. Or that it could be fixed, so I "bailed".

my temps seem pretty good across aii cores. I may still have to give this a try.

will some one tell me, I always hear oils (from finger prints) are not good for cpu. as they can raise the temps. he just rubbed his fingers on the bottom of the cpu, then dropped it back into the MB. wouldnt there be cause, for concern with this?

I am a bit fearful of doing what the video proposed. I don't know if I would be willing to take a chance doing that when I am a novice. I barely put together my first computer 2 months ago.

I have my 3570K cooled by an H80, not an H80i. But at 4.5GHZ under full load I don't get over 64C. Is your voltage a little high? Are you in a smoking hot room?

I just changed the multiplier and let the voltage stay on auto. I am a pretty big novice when it comes to this stuff. I don't really know what to do when I am changing voltages. The room my computer it is probably doesnt get above say 55 degrees. I am in northern California, so the winters are a bit colder. If anyone can help me with that, I will post my build.

you are gonna have to do so trial and error on the installation of your cooler. getting the "tim" (thermal paste) application, just right is key. i would look up (as i have never used a liquid cooler) the proper application of it. One wold assume (Im starting to hate that word) there is a video on the ole youtube.
on an air cooler you do the pea, bb sized method, generally. on the fx6300 cpu i had (w\212 evo) i did find the double (small) lines yielded better results. again this is sometimes just trial and error, testing. just take your time, keep things clean, and try to be methodical on your testing.

your temps do seem a bit high. as full_out, and others with water cooling ive been seeing, seem to be in the low to mid 60c. your temps are not any where near dangerous.

I am using air cooling (212evo) and my high during prime95 are at high 80's(86-90 actually) actual use during any gaming i see about 64-68c. im at 4.7ghz also.

I actually went in to manage the voltage on my cpu after the overclock. I lowered the voltage quite a bit, and the voltage seems to be stable. My Prime 95 numbers have fallen to no higher than 60 Celsius, so I guess that was the real problem.

Good stuff. I'm not to sure why everyone is so anal about what kind of thermal paste and how to apply it. I used the thermal paste that comes preinstalled on the H80 and it works perfectly fine. It's when I fine tuned my voltage I really saw the temps come down.
