Trying to get a Canon i960 to work in an old DOS program; it beeps like
it received the command, and just sits there doing nothing.
Something I need to do ???

There's a little capture program for DOS, I think it's called "ST". Uses a
hotkey to capture the screen to an image file.
then you print the image in Windows. Do a search for "ST.EXE".

You may need to buy a DOS printer emulation program. That's a sort of
driver that sits between your DOS window program, keeping an ear open
for anything on LPT1, and forwards a converted version to the windows
print manager.

DOS support (even in a command prompt window) usually isn't included
in winXP isn't a priority on modern printers, and is often left out of
drivers. With the shift towards GUI based programs, I guess
manufacturers just can't justify the expensive of developing the code.
Usually, all they do is just send DOS printed stuff to /DEV/NULL (ie.
blackhole) and report back all's well so that it won't crash the DOS
program in the process.

There are some commercial and shareware programs that do this to some
degree of success (not perfect). I've not tried DOS printing in a
while, so I can't really recommend anything though.

There's also the network printer trick, but I've not tried it myself

Try redirecting the print data from the DOS program to a file. There
look for a program called prn2file or something like that. After you
capture the print data, then use some windows program to send the file
to the printer.
