Printer advice

I do not use my printer much, mostly scanning. When I do use the printing function the cartridges have dried up and the printer is not usable any longer even with new ink. It prints with horizontal lines with a pink hue, and very faint. I figure that the ink left in the jets also dried and are clogging up. I am looking to buy a printer that I can use occasionally without it being ruined if i don't print regularly. Inexpensive ink is also a plus. Any suggestions?
