Printer cartridge -which one to use

i generally print black documents with me canon pixma mp 258 printer.it has 2 cartridges namely coloured and black.when i printer black document does it also uses some ink coloured cartidge while printing the black document????

If you print in color setting it can make black by combining all the colors. If you set it to print black and white, it should only use the black ink.

if you stop the printer during printing, you will see if it works. Otherwise most inkjet DO and will print colour first, then layer it with black.

Hi, may i ask if we can still print or copy anything if there is only black ink but not colour ink? Thanks!
