Hope someone can help. I have Windows XP SP2 on my latptop. I have been
using an Epson C66 printer with this laptop for about 2 years. I recently
had a problem with the printer so I went through the troubleshooter process
and was instructed to contact Epson. I did, and when I sent the error script
that I receive, they told me to contact Microsoft. I have been searching the
articles for patches, fixes, etc but am not having any luck. When I try to
reinstall the printer (with the printer cd or manually), the installation
appears to be going through and copying files and then I get a message that
the installation can not finish. The error script says: "The I/O operation
has been aborted due to a thread exit or an application request."

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Usually you can go to add/remove programs, click on the software, change,
then a new window shows with the option to repair the installation.

The Epson software does not give me the option to repair the software on the
control panel, only to remove it.

I had tried this before but I tried again per your response. It acts as if
it is going to install the driver and goes through the motions. It even gets
to a window that says the driver has been successfully installed and to click
Finish. When I click finish, then I get the same message about a "thread
exit or application request"

Janet, try removing the software from Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs.
Then go to Start>Run type: regedit click
Ok. Navigate to Hkey_Local_Machine\Software and delete the Epson
folder if there is one. Same at
Hkey_Current_User\Software.
Disconnect your Printer and any other USB devices you may have connected.
Then rt click on MyComputer>select Properties>Hardware>Device
Manager>View>Show hidden devices>USB Controllers. rt click on each one and
choose Uninstall.. Finally, restart and let WinXP reinstall all this stuff.
Install the
Printer Software with the printer still disconnected. If it doesnt work
after you do all this I am out of ideas.
