Hi

I have both Windows 10 and Mac OS pc's and use a Canon MX475 printer for our home printing. It's been a first class low cost printer, and used with the XL size cartridges has served our family well.

I've recently bought a Chromebook, (Asus C523N) running Chrome Version 81.0.4044.103 (Official Build) (64-bit)and I'm having nightmares trying to get the printer to connect. We have a strong ethernet Cable connection to both PC's from our BT Halo2 router and no issues with wireless signals at all.

Canon support, prior to the lockdown, although very helpful were unable to solve the issue, and I have to say, seem almost disinterested in support for Chromebooks, which seems very shortsighted.

So I'm probably going to have to look at alternative brands.

But here's where I've got even more confused. According to pretty well every website I've visited, connecting to Google Cloudprint is essential. It certainly didn't work with the MX475. BUT more to the point, Google are scrapping CloudPrint on 31/12/2020 anyway.

So what wireless printer WILL work with Chromebooks please. I'm particularly interested in hearing from Chromebook users who are currently using a printer that connects wirelessly. Obviously I don't want to buy a printer that will be obsolete in December.

And as a heads up to anyone else looking for a similar printer. You need to know that a good half of the printers that are recommended by various well known PC techie websites, rely on Cloudprint technology and so may well NOT work once that technology is discontinued. So don't rely on their recommendations too much.

Thanks for any pointers here.

Ok. I decided on an Epson Workforce series printer WF2850DWF.
It arrived from Amazon this morning, and was set up and connected to our phones, Chromebooks, 3 PC's and 2 tablets within the hour.
The absolute ease and simplicity of doing it was very refreshing, when compared with the hours of struggling with the Canon, and I very much doubt we will be darkening Canons door again.
The Chromebooks in particular now print immediately and directly without any necessity of using any PDF printing at all.
Great result. Thanks.
