I have a NT4 network. There is one laptop on the network that has win98. One of the (NT) workstations has a local printer shared. This printer cannot be seen by the win98 laptop. Why? How can this be fixed?
Thanks for all help.

Check to see if the "guest" account is enabled (it's disabled by default) on the NT machine that is sharing the printer. Also, unlike the NT machines, I believe you will have to install the win98 version of the printer driver on the laptop.

Cheers,

Ron_Jeremy

If you loan a friend $20 & never see them again, it was worth it.

Ron, isn't it better also when, for example a shareable HP-5M printer is on LPT of one NT workstation, and the printer drivers installed on another NT workstations which share that printer. Not as just printers added from Network Neighborhood w/o drivers?

<font color=blue>Nick, although your questions seems a little confusing - as I understand it, it is best to go ahead and install all the drivers on the NT machine for the various os's (9x etc.) that will be using the shared printer. That way the driver install is done once by the person with the actual printer (and likely a more tech literate) - on the printer server machine, and when the other machnies "Add" the Network printer, they don't have to have to find the driver, even if they are not NT.

That's the recomendation I read on the installation floppies for the HP above, and on the installation CD's that came with HP-5SiLaserJet, and HP4500Color-LaserJet how to install them on a network. What's confusing?
And that's what my Sys Admin demands.
In our case, if something wrong and our server is down, we continue to print.
I've just asked. Never mind.

Yes, Ron_Jeremy is right. Win9x/Me computers must have drivers installed for printing from NT.
