Every time I try to print out one of the charts, it come out pink and is
really difficult to read. Has this been anyone else's experience or is
it probably my printer? Other stuff seems to print fine...

I will never complete that damned IFR checkride unless I can get these
approach charts.

Seems like your printer could do with a new colour cartridge. I have
experienced this before.

Pete.

Sorted !! Glad to be of assistance.

I also agree that the cost of replacement colour cartridges are W A Y
over the top !!
Is it just us in the U.K. that are ripped off like this?
Maybe we ought to start another thread to see if other U.K. simmers
agree.
It isn't only cartridges.... Hardware, software, consumables....We
always seem to pay more than the rest of Europe and the U.S.

Thanks Pete. I didn't think of this at first because my cartridge is
apparently only half empty. However, after running some diagnostics it
looks like the cartridge is indeed knackered. Oh well, time to buy more
of some of the most overpriced stuff on the planet...

Yeah, seems like it when I talk to my friends in America. There was
something about the price of printer ink in the news a few weeks back
(not that anything came of it, of course), and I'm sure I heard someone
say that printer ink was - drop for drop - more expensive than champagne!

Wouldn't surprise me.

By the way - when I buy this, only my second cartridge, I will have paid
more for ink than I did for the printer. Madness!

Manufacturers are always developing "new and improved" printers with their
own unique "new and improved cartridges," then market the printer to an
almost "give away price" (sometimes they ARE "free" when bundled with a
computer package!)...

They are COUNTING on recouping their costs MANY TIMES OVER through sale of
the durn replacement cartridges! ;)

It pays to shop around. There are lot's of companies selling ink cartridges and refills.

I don;t think the high cost of cartridges is just a UK thing. I think of it
as buying a printer that probably costs 3200 to manufacture for a £60 down
payment and the rest in installments as you buy cartridges. refills and
cheaper clones are, of course, a way out!

However there is no doubt that manufacturers and wholesalers are quick to
increase prices when exchange rates go up, and slow or don;t reduce when
they come down. Is buying from the states an option?

Not really. The price is almost the same, and after adding the cost of
shipping it's even more. Thanks for the idea though. :)

For low price ink refills ets

I have found that buying ink and other supplies from Viking UK has been the
best decision I ever made. When you order by phone you always get a pleasant
well spoken competent human being and delivery next day -fantastic.

I have no connection other than as a very satisfied customer. I like all the
freebies too!

Have a look at,

Hmmm...thanks for the suggestion but these guys seem more expensive than
average, unless I'm missing something? I just paid £13 for a cartridge
at Asda, which Viking would have charged over £16 for. Even buying 3
would have worked out at over £15 for each.

Two thing to cut the costs if you are in the UK:

1. Buy a low-end Cannon printer (Good prints and inexpensive refills
compared to many others)

2. Try compatible cartridges from "Inkcycle" (I've found them as good as the
originals at half the price)

I've no connection with either of the above, but I would always recommend
them. I'm quite relaxed now, but my previous printer was ruining me!
