I have Lenovo IdeaCentre K430 it has windows 8.1 loaded on to it. I wan't to boot from the DVD drive. I go into Bios and into the Boot priority list and it shows all the different options to boot from. However when I start up the machine and press f12 it shows the boot priority list and it only shows 1 item in the list, the main hard drive. Now let me tell you what I have tired. First I tried changing the boot priority list order, that didn't change anything. I then excluded everything from the list except for the DVD drive and that gave me no options to boot from. I tried disconnecting the Hard drive power so it wouldn't be seen and that still didn't change anything. I can't even get it to see a USB connection either it will only see the hard drive. I also made sure it did'nt have rapid or speed boot enabled. I have checked every option I could find in Bios and I still can't get it to show anything else but the harddrive.

1) At boot time, immediately press and hold F12 until the Boot Device Menu appears. CD/DVD drive should be in that menu.

2) Now make sure the disc you want to boot from is in the CD/DVD drive.

3) Us up/down arrow keys to highlight the required boot device (eg model name of CD/DVD drive).

4) Press <Enter> key

5) Laptop should now boot from the CD/DVD disc.

Phillip thank you for responding. Did you miss the part in my description where I mentioned that I had already tried that. :) Any other ideas?

I didn't find a solution to why my system will only show the one hard drive and not anything else. However I did find a solution to my problem of being able to boot to a dvd instead so I could run a partition manager program to modify the hard drive. I just pulled the hard drive from the machine it was in and placed it into another machine and booted to the DVD and ran my partition manager software.
