I use Ipad and OnForm for coaching tennis (not typically in the line of fire) and have it covered in a great rubber case, that of course, thickens it.

I've used and currently use a plastic tripod holder that is not very good.

All the pro grade holders I've seen are made for use with "naked" ipads, and don't have capability to secure a shock mount case like mine.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

More information needed.

If there is nothing commercially available to meet your requirements then creativity is needed. :)

How is the iPad being used?

Are you filming how students play and doing so on the courts where the iPad or the tripod can be hit by tennis ball? That is how I understand your post.

What make and model "plastic" tripod is being used?

If possible take a couple of photographs and post the photograhs here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

No way to prevent the iPad/tripod from getting hit but there may be some good ideas towards further protecting the tripod/iPad setup.

Thx. Ipad is typically used off to the the side or rear of player to examine technique/mechanics--so not really in the line of fire. The tripod is not plastic, in fact I have several that I use for DSLRs, but chose the lightest most sturdy one for portability.

Take a look at those foam/plastic pool "noodles".

They are hollow and light - lots of colors if that matters. Waterproof. :)

Inexpensive - likely free if you ask family and friends with kids and pools.

Many uses for padding and protection. Just cut to desired length and make one longitudinal cut down into the hollow core. Sharp utility knife needed.

Then fit onto the edges of the iPad. Leaving a gap for the front camera lens.

Wrap a piece or two along the tripod post as well to absorb some shock if the tripod is hit.

You can also find insulating pipe noodles that will be heavier, denser, and pre-split plus cost more via big box hardware stores.

Google "pool noodle hacks"......
